Enjoy the thrill of the beautiful and renowned Colorado River!
The Colorado River is the perfect place for your family to enjoy an adventurous outing in the majestic Colorado outdoors. All tours meet at our Geodesic Dome SUP Headquarters at Rancho Del Rio. All patrons park near the Dome, check in, fill out waivers, get fitted with equipment, present their vouchers or pay for the tour, and put in, right at our private starting point.
Stand Up Paddle Colorado is one of the first licensed river outfitters to offer SUP trips commercially in the State of Colorado. The Upper Colorado has ideal river sections that can be split according to levels of comfort, safety and athleticism.
SUP is taking the world surfing community by storm and has now entered the realm of the river as well. For this activity you should be in adequate physical condition and be a comfortable swimmer. Class II rapids that may seem like nothing in a raft or kayak are a lot more challenging when standing on a SUP board while navigating through them. There is the potential for spending time in the water. This is why your trip includes instruction and a guide.
The tour begins with a safety talk and orientation. The first part of the tour includes an explanation of basic river dynamics and board and paddle familiarization. Only then does the tour advance into the rapids. There is always an SUP ACA Swiftwater accredited guide on the trip with never more than a 4/1 customer to guide ratio. Wetsuits and booties are provided on all trips along with helmets and PFD's.
The 2-2.5 hr tour finishes at State Bridge. You will be picked up by our shuttle van and taken back to the Dome Headquarters, where we began the tour. We encourage you to hang out and enjoy the beautiful setting at Rancho del Rio and use our picnic area if you bring food and drink.
Our tours until, 3:30 PM, allow a rafting add-on where younger children, friends and family who would prefer to spectate can be guided along with the paddlers to enjoy the scenic tour and offer hoots of encouragement to the paddlers.
Ready to tackle the river or lake on your own? We have a full rental fleet of inflatable stand up paddle boards.
For safety and to abide by the law, a certified Personal Flotation Device (PFD) and helmet are required. Sturdy shoes and a wetsuit are strongly advised. We rent out river-safe inflatable boards and all the necessary accessories at our SUP CO Headquarters at Rancho Del Rio. Rental options are set in 3 hour blocks. Full day rentals are subject to availability. We do not do overnight rentals.
A 24 hr. reservation is required to guarantee availability for a specific time. Late arrivals may not find equipment available on high demand days. A full rental charge will be made on late returns. No rentals permitted after 3:00PM. Blackout Days may be assessed considering high demand and buyout trips. Reservations are highly recommended for the weekends.
Drugs and Alcohol:
Stand Up Paddle Colorado, its guides, and affiliates have the right to cancel or negate service to anyone that shows up with drugs and alcohol, under the influence of drugs and alcohol or with the intent to use drugs and alcohol while using our equipment at any of our locations - Colorado River, Nottingham Lake and Lake Dillon. Cancellations done by our staff because of this or any other behavior that is deemed risky or irresponsible will be non-refundable.
For the SUP Advanced Full Day Tour we run the same sections we typically run on our full day rafting trips. We drive from our HQ at upstream to the Pumphouse, put in and run 10 miles of river and Class II and III rapids finishing at our Dome HQ. The length of the trip, the nature of the rapids and its remote setting requires a safety raft to paddle along for support. If at any point a patron wants to take a break from paddling, they are encouraged to sit in the raft for however long they wish and just enjoy the scenery. All rapids are scouted and explained beforehand. If at any point a patron decides he or she does not want to run a rapid on the board, they can sit in the raft and continue on the board after the rapid. Lunch is included in this tour as well.
See why stand up paddle boarding is the fastest growing sport in the world!

The beautiful and renowned Colorado River is the perfect place for your family to enjoy an adventurous outing in the majestic Colorado outdoors. All rafting tours meet at our Rancho Del Rio basecamp. All patrons meet at the Geodesic Dome where they check in, fill out waivers, get fitted with equipment and get a safety and paddle talk.
The section of the river is a wonderful and scenic Class I-II whitewater that makes this trip ideal for families with young children, or large groups with diverse ages and athletic abilities. It is a perfect adventure for a family reunion where children as young as four and adults of any age can share a memorable time on the river. It is also the perfect place to test yourself and your family before trying something more challenging. Along the way, there are rustic abandoned cabins from the turn of the century and a scenic wonderful float with bald eagles and other wildlife that can arrive at any moment.
Stand Up Paddle Colorado is excited to announce its first ever SUP intensive kids camp in the Vail Valley. We have an amazing location at Nottingham Lake in Avon and on the Colorado River where we feel confident we can offer a truly one of a kind experience for kids looking to learn more about SUP and have tons of fun and activity on the water. The best age range for the camp would be 10-17 years of age. The camp is a 4 Day package that includes 3 1/2 days in the morning from 8am-Noon and the last day will be a Full Day on the River.
The class will begin with an ACA format of SUP history, stroke and footwork fundamentals, equipment breakdown as well as fitness and conditioning. We will have time trials to measure improvement as well as video shooting for stroke analysis. Included in the experience is the one of a kind SUP Polo which is a perfect vehicle to work on fitness and stability in a dynamic setting. On one of the days, the class will have access to premier carbon race SUP's and have an ability to train and paddle on them. On the 3 day at Nottingham we will have a mini Battle of the Paddle style race and a SUP Polo tournament.
On the 4th day and last day of the class, we have a full day on the Colorado River. The first half of the day we work out of our Rancho Del Rio Basecamp in the upper eddies and work on fundamental river sup skills. After lunch we will paddle down our 4 mile stretch where they will be able to try and navigate Class 1 and 2 Whitewater. The class is limited to 15 kids. The course is meant to be a progression where we go from flatwater to moving water. We can make accommodations for kids not wanting to try the rapids by themselves by having them go down the river on one of our monster inflatables with a guide.
